Caulfield Racing Tips

Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 3m entire circuit

Best Bet: Race 6 – SUNLIGHT (especially if the on-pacers are prominent in the early races)

=====

Race 1: Fillies and Mares BM84 Handicap 1700m

REMEMBER THE NAME (8) has been so consistent this campaign, she usually needs everything to go right with her racing pattern of getting back though. She was in the right part of the track last time here when running on well, that is the one advantage as a back marker, the jock can decide which part of the track they want to run home on.

Dangers:

NAANTALI (2) has won three of her last four, she has versatility where she can map in a race and is likely to be a couple of pairs back. She comes through a race at the Valley a fortnight ago where one of the horses she beat as subsequently won. MA JONES (3) is also a back-marker and will have admirers, she has been up for a long time which is a little worrying, but she is a winner at the track previously. MILES OF KRISHAN (1) looks the leader off the good gate, no pattern established in the 1st race so hard to know if that will be advantageous or not.

Race 2: Mares Handicap 1100m

RILLITO (3) looked to peak late here last time she ran more than a month ago, coming back to the 1100m looks to suit. She has great closing speed and although she will be giving them a start, there looks to be a genuine tempo on paper for her to work into it late.

Dangers:

CRYSTAL FOUNTAIN (2) has trialed ok for her return, she competed in black type races when travelling north last campaign and almost came away with a Listed victory. CREATIVITY (4) has good tactical speed and will go forward, she may have to sit outside the leader and barring any sever headwind or track bias, that is not a bad spot to be here at the 1100m. TRUE EXCELSIOR (5) was super at Group One level across the border last time, she has had four months off though and may need the run. It looks an open race, any of these four saluting wouldn’t surprise.

Race 3: BM78 Handicap 1100m

We are going to get a good price about HIGHLAND BEAT (1) today with the extreme draw, he has been super in his last three starts in harder races than this. He has enough tactical speed to offset the bad draw, if he can get to the spot outside the leader or cover on the speed, he will be hard to beat with the good claim.

Dangers:

A GOOD YARN (7) has won three of four this prep going back to his maiden win when resuming, the last three have been enormous with 4.5 lengths being the shortest winning margin. He has speed and can lead, just worried that a more experienced campaigner will be up outside him. He has speed, he may just be too fast. Followers of these tips will know that I am a big fan of SEVEN YEAR REWARD (12) but he has not won in a long time. He looked like a world beater at his first two starts, has speed but should take a sit here in behind the leader. CARLINGFORD (9) was ok in a similar race last time after having some support at double figure odds.

Race 4: BM84 Handicap 1400m

WHEAL LEISURE (9) will only improve on what she does here over further, but she has won 2/3 when racing fresh. She will be giving them a start no doubt, but she looks well in at this level. Look for her late.

Dangers:

REDEFINE (4) was super at his second Oz start, showed a stack of speed to lead all the way at Sandown. He will have to jump well to overcome the really bad draw, but if he gets across easily he will be hard to run down. OUR PEAKY BLINDERS (3) is another that may want further, he has won fresh and gets the good claim. THE AVENGER (13) is also drawn poorly, he will roll forward and is very consistent. The barrier draw has made it an interesting and tough betting affair.

Race 5: Vain Stakes 3YO C&G 1100m

ROCK HARD (3) is undefeated after three career starts, resumes here at Group Three level in what looks an even race. He showed plenty of tactical speed at his first prep winning all three, his last start win here was super when running about a bit eventually getting back on the rail which certainly wasn’t the fast lane.

Dangers:

THE AUGUST (4) is also resuming, he has won both of his starts also and was heavily supported up the straight before going for a break. He has trialed fairly in preparation for this. TONY NICCONI (6) could not have been more impressive at his debut here seven weeks ago, he sat up on the speed and was simply too fast for them. This is a lot harder, but he looks to have untapped ability. LONG LEAF (1) was racing the best of his age group in Group One racing before going to the paddock, his two career wins have both been when racing fresh as he is today.

Race 6: Quezette Stakes 3YO Fillies 1100m

Gold Coast Magic Millions winner SUNLIGHT (1) resumed in SA last time out, she was belted by the older Nature Strip in what was billed as a match race, but he is a star. Back against her own sex here under the set weights and penalty conditions, she looks a good thing. She has great speed and the right draw, she will be on the pace for a long way.

Dangers:

PIPPIE (10) bolted n on debut by five lengths, went to the Valley and was beaten on her merits. She will go forward again no doubt. She looks to have a stack of ability and we can forgive her that run. WRITE ENUFF (9) won on debut at the Bool over the carnival showing good speed to lead throughout, she resumes off the wide draw but has trialed well. WITHERSPOON (7) is an interesting runner travelling south, watch the money for her.

Race 7: P.B Lawrence Stakes WFA 1400m

What an interesting race and it poses more questions than answers pre-race and looks a mighty tough betting proposition. We have so many resuming, most of their grand finals are a couple of months away yet. SHOWTIME (14) ran through the line well in the Missile Stakes north of the border resuming, he didn’t have a lot of luck mid-race and no doubt the form out of that will hold-up.

Dangers:

GRUNT (13) was a Guineas winner at the back-end of his last prep, has trialed ok and races well fresh. He won all four starts last prep and could be a star of the future, just may need the run. BLACK HEART BART (2) has the one run under his belt this time in, he ran through the line well in a race where the runner-up has come out and won since. HUMIDOR (3) will get a soft trip but still may need a run or two, he did almost ruin the nation’s hearts last year when looming up to beat Winx last prep in a Cox Plate. Plenty of other class runners that are on a mission for Cups glory. Fascinating affair.

Race 8: Regal Roller Stakes Handicap 1200m

BRAVE SONG (7) will find this a little easier than last week at Flemington up the straight. He ran on hard on that occasion, on the quick back-up and third-up looks a good recipe! He has versatility but expect him to get back from this draw.

Dangers:

RICH CHARM (1) has obviously had a set-back after being scratched last week, he is drawn out but will get back anyway. He has a brilliant finish on him, if he is right he will be the one flashing late. OSBORNE BULLS (3) is resuming, also a get back and run-on type, he has won both of his previous fresh runs. His trials don’t read great on paper but that can be the norm with this stable. INN KEEPER (5) may get a soft lead with the majority of his rivals to get back, if the on-pacers are dominating early in the day he will be hard to run down.

Race 9: Handicap 1600m

PLEIN CIEL (5) was super in the Mildura Cup when resuming last start after having more than a year off. He has not missed a place at nine career starts, has good tactical speed and should be one of the leaders. His record second-up is super as well (3:2-1-0)

Dangers:

CALL ME HANDSOME (7) is also very reliable, he had the perfect ride to score at the Valley, but he looks a good risk from the wider draw. He will need cover, doubt he can sit wide in the breeze and win. Risk him if he starts favourite here. ANOTHER COLDIE (13) has been consistent, he should be able to settle a little closer, maybe just a few pairs back and shouldn’t be wide. Look for him late. MASK OF TIME (3) next best but also a get back type. Very confident PLEIN CIEL (5) as an each-way bet to nothing.
