Canterbury

Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 6m entire circuit

Best Bet: Race 6 – 3 ESPERANCE

Race 1: 3YO C7G Handicap 1100m

WAGNER (1) was placed at all three runs in his first campaign, he is resuming today but was a dominant winner of a recent trial in preparation for this. He has shown versatility in where he can map, the small field suits and he shouldn’t be far away in the run.

Dangers:

NICCO LAD (2) has also placed at his only two starts, he has been off the scene for 19 weeks. He has trialed very quietly but must be respected from this stable. VENDOME (6) is also resuming and debuted in a much harder race than this, he didn’t have a lot of luck that day and was beaten less than 5 lengths. He is sure to have admirers. BONDI BOY (4) had every chance on debut before being sent to the paddock, he resumes today a gelding.

Race 2: 3YO Fillies Maiden Handicap 1100m

FALLGOLD (7) resumes at Newcastle over 900m, she got a fair way back and was held-up before working to the line nicely. She gets the extra furlong here which looks to be to her benefit and should be fitter for that fresh run.

Dangers:

PRESS BOX (1) was last seen back in May in a much harder race in town than this, she was in the red that day and has trialed well. She looks to have ability. CALL ME ROYAL (2) has the benefit of one run under her belt, she led and got run down. She will go forward again, if able to get a coupe of cheap sectionals she looks a great each-way bet to nothing. AMBLEVE (3) is an interesting runner, she debuted south of the border and was good through the line, gets out in trip here and must be respected from this stable.

Race 3: BM76 Handicap 2700m

ALLCASH (3) was held-up at a vital stage at his latest outing, although he didn’t explode through the line when out, he was strong and the step up in trip looks ideal.

Dangers:

SEGENHOE (1) was good winning a harder race last time leading all the way. He goes up 8 kg in weight from that run and not sure the extra distance suits, but he will probably lead for a long way. PRESCIENCE (4) should be fully fit now, he had every chance last time but was only fair through the line. He will come with a long-sustained run. EVERLY GIRL (5) next best but she will get back and has been up for a long time. She looks a place proposition only.

Race 4: BM70 Handicap 1900m

MAKDANIFE (5) comes into this third-up and should be nearing peak fitness, he was good fresh and then was a little plain and one-paced last time, but that can happen with these middle distance horses second-up. Expect him to show more dash late this time.

Dangers:

HIGH BRIDGE (4) is an interesting addition to the Waller stable, he was last seen in over the sticks in Germany. No doubt he will improve on whatever he does here over further but he has shown he can do it fresh as well. DECROUOX (1) looks the leader, he was dominant bolting in by a big margin last time in an easier race at Kembla. If the on-pacers are dominating early, he goes to the clear top selection. TAMARACK (2) next best, will get back but looks suited by the small field.

Race 5: BM74 Handicap 1550m

FALCON ISLAND (2) won a similar race last start after sitting outside the leader. He fought on doggedly and was actually coming away again on the line. He does have to step up and carry 61kg, but he will be up controlling the speed again and looks hard to beat.

Dangers:

GAUGIN (4) was the horse that led that day, he looked to have every chance and may have to sit behind him or off the fence. He does meet him better in the weights but was beaten on his merit. HE’S A GIVEN (7) should get a lovely run on transit just in behind the leaders if the fence isn’t off, next best GRAVITATE (8) who doesn’t win out of turn and has been up a while.

Race 6: CG&E BM74 Handicap 1200m

ESPERANCE (3) was super through the line when resuming, he settled wide and well back and was forced to fan to the middle of the track. When he balanced up he really ran on hard. The extra 100m suits, was a winner at his only other second-up run and should settle a little closer here.

Dangers:

If the track is playing fair (you never know with the rail out having not raced here in a couple of months) he looks the best of the day. JUNGLIZED (1) will work forward, he came through the same race as the top selection but was up on the speed and seemed to have every chance. METAMORPHIC (4) changed his tactics last time and settled further forward, he was good winning that but comes back in distance and gets the wider gate. He looks a good risk especially if no change of tactics is lodged and he wants to go forward again. RED ROVER (6) will find this tougher than his last start maiden win, he resumes today and maps well but would rather see him handle the class rise before recommending.

Race 7: F&M BM71 Handicap 1200m

The biggest field of the day and it looks a tough way to end the Quaddie. PANDEMONIUM (1) has the class, she is resuming and will want further but has trialed well and will go forward. If she can lump the huge weight she will be hard to run past in the straight.

Dangers:

Most of them. WAIMEA BAY (2) has paced at both second-up runs, she is likely to get a little further back, but she was racing against better opposition last start. TARABAI (3) had excuses resuming, she ran on well but appeared in the steward’s report after pulling up lame. RED CHANDELIER (6) is resuming, he goes well fresh especially if there is any rain around. Tough race to finish, play wide.
