Bendigo Racing Tips
Track: Good 4. Rail: True
Best Bet: Race 1 – PRINCE OF CAVIAR
=====
Race 1: Maiden Plate 1300m
PRINCE OF CAVIAR (10) is the son of Black caviar, so there is always going to be the spotlight/haters when it comes to his racing performance, comparing his ability with his mums. He was super resuming and hit the line hard, he had the right run but did over-race and came wide and ran through the line well. He maps well here.
Dangers:
MICKEY BLUE EYES (8) gets a stack of gear changes resuming here, he will find this easier than what he was contesting in Sydney, was ridden closer to the speed last time he went around. KUDA BAGUS (7) was good up on the speed on debut but will find this a little harder, maps well and should be prominent again. BRUTAL POWER (4) must be respected from the Moroney yard, he was well in the market at start two but did have every chance. You would need double figure odds to back him here though.
Race 2: 3YO Maiden Plate 1600m
HIGH BEAM (13) has raced on soft tracks at both of her starts, the latest she was stuck three-wide without cover throughout and made a long-searching run and was still coming at the line. Out to the mile for the first time here looks suitable and she maps to be aa little closer in the run.
Dangers:
BLACK BLISS (12) was a huge drifter in the market at her latest, had absolutely no luck from before the turn to the furlong marker before getting clear and stretching out nicely to narrowly miss. THUNDERDOME (10) settled a lot closer last time, had to work hard early three-wide to get up outside the leader and stuck on ok when it looked like dropping out. He should go forward again from the draw. NERO CHIN CHIN (7) is back in distance and coming here off a couple of months freshen up. He is lining up for start eight, so he has had enough chances, but he will run on hard from the back.
Race 3: 3YO Fillies BM70 Handicap 1600m
A small field but barring the bottom three, any of the other five look to be good chances. YULONG METEOR (4) will more than likely be opposed in the betting as they like to lay them when coming off a synthetic track win, but she could not have been more impressive. She sat back off the speed, came wide and put them away in a few strides when balanced up and was a soft win in the end. Up to the mile on the big track here she should be motoring late out wide.
Dangers:
SHE’S SENSATIONAL (3) ran home hard at Flemington, she has had a 7-week let-up between runs and comes back a furlong in trip. If she can get a soft piggy-back into it behind the top selection, she will hit the line hard as well. SIZZLEME (1) and LAST VEIN (5) look like going forward early, whichever of the two is able to assert control on the rail will look the winner at some stage.
Race 4: BM64 Handicap 1600m
CAVALERO (1) will appreciate being back in this grade, he has been fair at best at his last couple in much stronger company but does tick a few boxes here. He has the big weight but the claim to offset that a little, the good inside draw which he should be able to use to his advantage and attempt to lead all the way. If the on-pacers have been dominant in the first few races, he looks a great each-way bet at double figure odds in an open race.
Dangers:
TIGEEN (9) looks to have come back well from the break, she got well back in the run on the synthetic track but really hit the line hard. Up to the mile second-up, a distance she has placed at both times she has run it, she should be mid-field in the run and finishing hard. MERCHANT OF VENICE (10) is coming straight off a debut maiden win, he was very impressive but may have been a little flattered the way the race was run and how the track was playing. MISS COOLANGATTA (7) is consistent, she has the poor draw to overcome but she is likely to get well back anyway. Look for her late if the speed is on.
Race 5: Class 1 Handicap 1400m
MURLESS (10) was good at his first go out of maiden grade, he took on his own age group and was up on the speed for a long way, he battled hard once headed and looked like he was going to be well beaten. From the good draw again here, this looks no harder and he should be up on the speed for a long way.
Dangers:
RUOMAZA (1) looks the most interesting runner of the day, he was a winner in NZ at his debut more than three months ago, he is resuming here and now with the Darren Weir stable. He must be respected. SICKENING (2) is another Weir runner with plenty of unknowns, he has been gelded since we last saw him at the races almost two months ago. He may need the run but look if there is any money late from the track which may suggest he looks fit enough. HOCHADEL (4) has had a consistent start to his career, all four runs this time in have been good. Expect him to settle closer here than what he did at Sandown last start when running on from well back.
Race 6: BM78 Handicap 2400m
Sticking with FONTEIN LAD (4) purely for his consistency, he has only put in the one howler this time in work and is as honest as the day is long. If he can get cover three or four pairs back, he should be running on hard at the back-end. He doesn’t have a lot of brilliance, but he will keep chasing.
Dangers:
VALAC (1) was coming off a hattrick of wins when beaten into 2nd last time at Cranbourne. He chased hard once again but just found one better in a race that may prove a good form reference. MR SHERIDAN (8) is well travelled since arriving from NZ three starts ago, he will get back from the draw but has been running on well. This is no harder than his last assignment across the border in SA. MIRIMAR (9) was ordinary last start, he wasn’t suited by the tempo of the race which made it hard to get into the race. He is better than that and looks a place chance.
Race 7: BM84 Handicap 1000m
PREZADO (3) was heavily backed to win a harder race than this up the straight fresh, he did have every chance but was game in defeat. He has been a scratching since then, so there may have been an issue, remember he ran Nature Strip to 3/4 of a length last prep! Now he finds himself in an 84 at Bendigo and has won second-up previously, although clearly, he loves it fresh.
Dangers:
SMART COUPE (13) looms as the obvious danger. She is resuming today off a six-month break, she has some tactical speed, but she may just find a few of these too nippy over the 1000m. She has class, look for the late money to indicate she is ready to go. WRITTEN CHOICE (14) is a lightly raced 4YO that is resuming, he has trialed well, but this is certainly his biggest test. He looks a great lay up in this class against a couple of quality opponents, he will surely be a big drifter in the market off the wide draw? SPRING TYCOON (2) next best but a minor place chance only. There look only two hopes, if anything at huge odds gets close to those two here they will be worth following in the future.
Race 8: BM70 Handicap 1300m
It seems these Wednesday meetings always throw up the toughest betting race of the day to end the Quaddie, today looks no different. BLACK SAIL (6) will start near the top of the market, after contesting much harder races last perp, just not sure if he will be ready to go and he was beaten a long way in those harder races. LUCKY FISH (4) was good last time despite being beaten 5 lengths, this is easier and maps to have the nice sit on the leaders here. GO DOWN (3) is drawn poorly but goes well second-up whilst TAVISTOCK ABBEY (8) will improve on whatever he does here fresh over further. Play very wide, little to no confidence and if there is no money for Black Sail late, take a big stand against him.
