Moonee Valley Racing Tips
Track: Good 4. Rail: True.
Best Bet: Race 2 – MAHIS ANGEL
=====
Race 1: Super VOBIS 2YO Plate 1200m
YES YES YES (1) has been to the track twice, on debut here he got back and ran on well in a race where the tempo suited, he then went to Flemington and was dominant up the straight. He certainly has the ability and also has the experience here at the track.
Dangers:
Obviously there are a lot of unknowns. Look for any money for CATHERS (4), KIN NEKO (6) and MATADOR (7) on debut. I suggest if there is no real hard sharp money for one of the debutants then the top selection looks a good thing.
Race 2: BM64 Handicap 1600m
MAHIS ANGEL (6) is only lightly raced, he resumed here a month ago and was absolutly dominant in a race where he had to sit wide without cover in a race that didn’t favour that tempo. He then went to Flemington and had no luck when wide again throughout. He maps better here with the gear changes and looks a good thing.
Dangers:
ZOU YORK (4) comes out of a hot form race at Sandown last time where he had the right run but was good through the line to win. There have been two subsequent winners come through that race since, he maps well and expect him to be well fancied in this. CHAIRMAN’S CHOICE (8) resumes with a dominant win on the heavy track at Geelong, this is obviously harder stepping out of maiden grade but he looks to have come back well. LYNCH MOB (9) has had more experience than most here, he doesn’t win out of turn but has placed at 2 of 3 previous second-up runs.
Race 3: 3YO Fillies BM70 Handicap 1200m
SORA (9) was good on debut in a hot form race that has had 4 subsequent winners come out of it. She did have her chance that day but backed it up with a solid maiden win here a fortnight later, she showed good speed that night and gave nothing else a chance.
Dangers:
DENTARA (11) should be big odds, she has been very consistent and finally broke through with a deserved maiden win last time. This is harder and she may have to sit outside the leader, but she should be on the speed for a long way. PICKUP THE PIECES (8) also has speed, she will go forward but she needs to get on the bunny to win. With all the speed in the race, JAY JAY D’AR (5) may be the one to benefit, she charged home out wide at Sandown last start in her first go out of maiden grade.
Race 4: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1000m
SOUL STAR (7) is resuming and gets in well with the claim, she may still only have her maiden win to her name but number two is just around the corner. She was close up behind some handy ones when last in work, look for any money for her here fresh.
Dangers:
PRIVATE LOUNGE (3) is an interesting runner, if the money comes for her then she rockets to the top of selections. She has had more than a year off, the last time she was at the races she bolted in a similar race to thins. She has been very consistent in her short career, just need to see that money come for her after such a long lay-off. FREEZE OVER (4) was super winning here over the short trip last time, she may have to sit wider here though on the speed which is a concern. OUR GLADIATOR (1) next best with the good gate and the claim, she won her last start against the boys in easier grade and must be thrown in al exotics.
Race 5: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1600m
CRIMSON TEARS (5) didn’t show much at her first prep, was sent to the paddock for six months and has come back a new horse. She ran on hard to win her maiden fresh, then had a similar pattern winning her first crack out of maiden grade. She steps up in grade again but draws to get a very soft run. She may just need a little luck getting away from the inside when the runs come.
Dangers:
YATTA IZU (4) showed more tactical speed when having her first look at the track last time, she wasn’t beaten far after doing plenty of work. SAVAJU (2) has plenty of experience, she has been up for a while but is still racing well however she will have to improve on her average record here at the track. CASA DE LAGO (1) resumed with a nice win here a fortnight ago, she ran on hard and there has been a winner come out of that race since.
Race 6: Handicap 2040m
It looks a two-horse war on paper, MASCULINO (4) just getting the nod. He has taken a few runs to hit his straps this prep but showed he may be back near his best after a dominant win at HQ last time. He maps well again and should be running on hard.
Dangers:
AL GALAYEL (5) looks the obvious threat, he was having his first look at the track last time when beautifully ridden to win well. Not everything went right that day, he should be off the rails here so luck shouldn’t play a part. BEAUTY WAY (3) is an interesting runner that has only had the one run since coming from NZ, he was a dominant winner at Pakenham in a much easier race. ANOTHER COLDIE (1) next best with the big weight.
Race 7: BM78 Handicap 2500m
DIAMOND GRACE (7) doesn’t have the greatest numerical form in the race, but her two runs back have been full of merit. She hasn’t had may preps that have gone deep in number of runs, she should be fully fit here third-up and is a winner at the track previously.
Dangers:
KHARTOUM (5) was brave in defeat last time at Pakenham after sitting wide without cover, his win previously was good and he is a much-improved horse at his last couple. GOODWOOD ZODIAC (4) looks the leader and may give a sight but would need to get some easy sectionals. MAZAZ (1) is very consistent, he had a tough run last time after making a long-sustained run.
Race 8: BM70 Handicap 1000m
BELWAZI (1) was well beaten fresh after a torrid run in a much harder race, she then was here again when five and six-wide throughout, she didn’t shirk the task and kept coming. She draws much better here, and is a perfect 2/2 when third-up.
Dangers:
MAKAHU BOY (4) resumed with a nice win from in front, he has the horror draw here and would need to get across to the rails first or outside the leader, and cheaply. MISS NORWAY (6) was a good winner against the girls last time at Sandown, she maps well but a little worrying is her second-up record. KAKANUI (3) races well here at the track, the only time he didn’t run a place here at the Valley was last time a week ago, but he did chase hard.
Race 9: Handicap 1000m
OUR LUCA (3) is absolutely flying this time in, he has been here at the Valley at all three starts, led all the way in all three and will once again go to the front. Steph Thornton rides this horse and this track so well, he will be in front for a long way.
Dangers:
ASHLOR (2) will find this much easier than last start when he went west for a crack at the Winterbottom. He was really good in that race when the tempo was against those up on the speed. It is hard to see one of those two not saluting, either Our Luca gets the soft lead and goes from pillar to post, or they attack him and Ashlor gets over the top. THERMAL CURRENT (1) and TILDAY LAD (4) next best, but for the minors only.
