Sandown Racing Tips

Track: Soft 5. Rail: Out 9m entire circuit.

Best Bet: Race 5 – DEMOLITION

=====

Race 1: Super VOBIS 2YO Handicap 1400m

A stack of these look open to improvement so the confidence levels are low. ZOUTORI (2) is still a maiden but was super through the line last time at Flemington after being held-up at a vital stage. FIGHTING HARADA (3) showed a lot more speed last time leading all the way to get his maiden win. OKAY BOSS (4) won his maiden ono the heavy track last time up on the speed and should be handy again from the good draw. WINNING PARTNER (5) is still a maiden but had no luck at his latest before running on well. There look to be better opportunities later in the day.

Race 2: BM64 Handicap 2400m

HIGH ENERGY (6) comes through a form line that a few of these also competed in last time, he settled back before saving ground and then ran into a dead-end for most of the straight, finally saw daylight over the last 50m and was strong through the line.

Dangers:

STARTIERRA (5) comes through that same race at Bendigo, he was forced to chase hard and was a solid runner-up but did have every chance. He maps to be just off the speed again but may hit the front too early. CALIFORNIAGRANDCRU (9) was good here on the bigger track last time and there has been a subsequent winner come out of that race. He will get back but may be able to get the back of the right horse for a good cart into it. MANDALAY BAY (1) will find this easier but was poor last time he was at this venue. Gets a soft run off the inside draw.

Race 3: BM64 Handicap 1400m

JEALOUS RUMOUR (6) was good resuming off a break longer than a year, she was up on the speed in a harder race and stuck on well. Excuses last time after losing both plates and being held-up, if she can get across with some cover she looks a great each-way bet.

Dangers:

HELCRIMSON (10) has ran on well on the rain affected tracks at his last couple, any rain around wouldn’t hurt his chances. FLORIDA KEYS (9) was good late through the line in a harder race against the girls last time, she will appreciate the extra distance here. EL PHOENIX (8) was ok resuming having his first go out of maiden grade, tough ask from the draw and will get a long way back. He looks to have above average ability.

Race 4: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1200m

CHATUCHAK (1) had every chance last time when well supported late in the betting, she maps well again to be just off the leaders and looks better suited back against the girls.

Dangers:

SCOLARIO (2) ran on hard late last time in a similar race, her last two have been on a heavy track and she looks to handle it well. Look for her late if she is to feature. JOCASTO (3) wasn’t far behind her in the same race last time and had excuses, she doesn’t meet her any better at the weights here. MIALIGN (7) has good tactical speed and led all the way last start in a much easier race, she can take advantage of the good draw here.

Race 5: BM70 Handicap 1200m

If the run-on horses are featuring, then DEMOLITION (1) looks the good thing of the day. He is resuming here today but has a great record fresh, has trialed only fairly but that is usually the case with this stable. He will be giving them a start but looks well in this grade. Look for him late.

Dangers:

MR SINATRA (4) and THE CANTAURIAN (3) are both drawn horribly. The latter normally goes forward but expect that they will be back with the topweight early. The wet track will be the key to both of their winning chances. COMRADE NED (6) was unlucky at Wagga and it will pay to forget that he ever went around in that and looks a good place bet. Look for a change of tactics from a noted back-marker as there doesn’t appear to be a lot of speed in the race.

Race 6: 3YO Fillies BM70 Handicap 1200m

GREY SHADOW (1) looked to have every chance up the straight last time but just found a couple better. She placed at her only start here, if she gets cover mid-field or better she should be winning this.

Dangers:

ELLE GAGNE (4) resumed with a solid on pace win, has a win from her only start on rain affected going and draws to be prominent throughout. WIRED (10) is consistent but will get back, LAYEL (12) was well beaten up the straight last time but looks better suited back in this grade and down in the weights.

Race 7: 3YO BM70 Handicap 1400m

SMOKE SIGNAL (10) is a last start maiden winner taking a pretty big leap in grade here, but the way he ran through the line shows he has come back well and is above average. He can over-race so he will need to settle, with cover he can dash quickly over the last furlong.

Dangers:

CAPTAIN HARRY (7) is versatile with where he can settle in his races, his last two have been good on the heavy tracks. MR MONEY BAGS (1) would have been at the top of the selections had he not drawn the extreme gate, he made some ground in a harder race last time after getting well back. ROSSMAN (2) is also drawn poorly but has only missed a place at one of his five career starts. He will get back, so the barrier is not quite as relevant, look for him late.

Race 8: BM78 Handicap 1600m

BUCKHOUND (10) is only lightly raced, he looks suited getting out to the mile after charging home late last time over the 1400m. That was his first step out of maiden grade and goes back on the grass here but looks to have a stack of potential.

Dangers:

GROOVIN (8) looked to have every chance up on the speed against the girls last time in a race where that pattern of racing was suited. She will roll forward again and try to lead all the way. SERENADE THE STARS (3) is resuming straight into the mile, has won previously fresh, you know he will get the trip and be winding up late. I BOOGI (6) is better than his recent runs suggest, he will get back and may need a little luck getting away form the inside when the runs come.
