Moonee Valley Racing Tips
Track: Good 4. Rail: True
Best Bet: Race 7: CALL ME HANDSOME
=====
Race 1: 3YO C&G Handicap 1100m
ALL IN BRAWL (3) has only been to the races once, was well backed on the synthetic down the highway at Geelong and was simply too quick for them. he went straight to the front and kicked inside the furlong for a comfortable win. Always a little questionable when coming onto the turf for the first time but he looks to have a stack of ability.
Dangers:
SANGLIER (1) is resuming and is more experienced, has 6 runs under his belt and wasn’t beaten far in a black type race in SA last time. If he is ready to go he looks the obvious danger. DIVINE MR TYCOON (4) is still a maiden and gets the tongue tie for the first time, he has shown speed at both starts but may take more benefit with a sit here. YULONG RAIN (5) was super when over racing and setting up a big mid-race lead but was still strong enough through the line.
Race 2: Fillies and Mares BM84 1600m
MILES OF KRISHAN (1) is racing super and gets the good 3kg claim, she probably races better on the bigger track at Flemington, but the class may get her over the line. She will need a little bit of luck getting off the inside as she will take a sit, she is going well.
Dangers:
MA JONES (3) was runner-up to her at their last meeting three weeks ago, she looked to just peak late and should be running on hard again if saved for one run. NAANTALI (6) is racing well but has to take on the older horses and looks a good risk, she will get back but does have a lot of upside. HUSSY’S GLOW (5) is another that will get back and is racing consistently but with this pattern they always need everything to go right.
Race 3: 3YO Fillies Handicap 1000m
PIPPIE (11) is the most inexperienced filly in the race, but it was hard not to be impressed by her maiden win at Cranbourne. She showed speed to lead, kicked on the turn and absolutely bolted in. There has been a subsequent winner come out of that race, so the form should hold up ok. She looks to have a stack of brilliance and may be too quick.
Dangers:
MULTAJA (10) also was a winner at her only start, she had to do it tough sitting wide through-out but was a strong winner. The draw hurts again and will have to sit outside the top selection, this is harder. FIDELIA (9) is the third of the debut maiden winners racing here, she did it in different style running on hard. If the top two selections go crazy here look for her late. ENNIS HILL (1) has some class but doubt that she will be able to lead as she did last start north of the border.
Race 4: BM78 1000m Handicap
EUPHORIA (9) is an interesting runner resuming, she is a former NZ’er that was racing very consistently before coming across the ditch, she has won fresh previously and the money trail will be interesting. If there is none for her, look elsewhere.
Dangers:
SAXOPHONE (10) was well beaten in a harder race up the straight last time after showing speed, he looks better suited here around the bend and will be up on the speed. YOU’VE BEEN HAD (4) came through that same race up the straight, was a little plain but this is easier. PLATEAU GOLD (2) is a last start winner on the synthetic, he has some speed and should be able to use the inside barrier to his advantage.
Race 5: BM70 Handicap 1500m
STREETS OF AVALON (5) has been runner-up at his last two, he hasn’t had a lot of luck being wide and so-on, if he can find some cover just off the speed here he will be hard to beat. He has placed at three of four here at the track, he looks the on top pick in an open race.
Dangers:
EMOJI (6) will get back from the wide gate but has been running on well enough, CAVALERO (10) has some tactical speed, he was poor when going across for the Guineas in Tasmania last time but is better than that. MINOAN SPIRIT (8) is also drawn wide but will get back anyway so that shouldn’t factor in. Look for him late. It is a very open race and thankfully not part of the Quaddie.
Race 6: BM78 Handicap 2500m
Things get no easier here in the first leg of the Quaddie, sticking with the Darren Weir pair at the top of the weights THUNDER CLOUD (1) and BIG HAMMER (2). They are coming through different formlines but both are racing consistently. With similar racoing patterns of getting back early, they will always need everything to go right but the big even field suits. STREETCAR TO STARS (4) looks the obvious danger, he has only had the one start since arriving in Australia when placing at Sandown up on the speed. He is sure to have improved off that run and will get the trip, a little concerning though that on occasions these Lloyd Williams imports can race a little flat second-up. PIONEERTOWN (8) led throughout last time when showing improvement, he may look to adapt similar tactics here but does carry the extra weight.
Race 7: Handicap 1600m
CALL ME HANDSOME (12) was huge in defeat last start, he sat up on the speed when over-racing and was wide, he got to the front too early and peaked late after a tough run. He maps a lot better here today off the inside draw and looks the one to beat.
Dangers:
ANOTHER COLDIE (11) was a last start winner at Sandown where he was nicely ridden, he has shown adaptability in where he can maop so the jock will have a few choices early from the gate with the consistent Weir runner. MALAISE (5) comes through the same race as the top selection and ran on hard form the back, just hard seeing him not getting well out of his ground again from the wide draw. JACQUINOT BAY (2) is a veteran that is still showing some good signs, worth throwing into the first fours and other exotics.
Race 8: Handicap 2040m
TRAP FOR FOOLS (3) 3had the picket fence going last prep when in WA, he has since come east and ran two nice races at his last couple. He has good tactical speed and will try and lead all the way.
Dangers:
PACODALI (1) was double figure odds when beating the top selection last time, he will get back and need the pace to be genuine to run over the top of them again. MORTON’S FORK (2) also comes through similar formlines, he had to work hard when beaten at Flemington last time and we all know how hard that is around the long sweeping bend. HANS HOLBEIN (4) is resuming, he has a poor record here at the track but these stayer’s from the Lloyd Williams barn must always be respected, they can get one to fire fresh.
Race 9: BM84 Handicap 1200m
Almost a field job in the last barring a few down in the weights, LABUAN STAR (1) has yet to miss a place this time in and was rewarded with a win at Geelong in similar grade last time. He is a back marker that will be storming late so the wide draw should not affect him, look for him late if the tempo is solid as it should be in the big field.
Dangers:
Nearly all of the field! PRINCETON SPIRIT (3) loves racing here, he has good tactical speed and will be rolling over early looking for the front and attempting to lead throughout. If he gets that spot without spending much fuel he will be hard to run down. WISE HERO (4) drops in class, HIGHLAND BEAT (5) maps well and SHARPNESS (6) is going for three in a row and must be respected from the Hawkes yard. As stated earlier, play very wide in the Quaddie, it could be a blowout in this last leg!
