Geelong Racing Tips
Track: Soft 5. Rail: True
Best Bet: Race 8 – IN GOOD TIME
=====
Race 1: BM78 Handicap 2400m
TRULY HIGH (6) has been up for a long while, which is a little concerning but he is so consistent. He will be giving them a start here but the small field suits and should be running over the top of them late.
Dangers:
There doesn’t appear to much speed in the race, REX BELL (5) may take up the running and if left alone, prove hard to catch. PRINCE ALBY (8) hasn’t had a lot of success but he has run on well at all three starts this time in and is getting closer to that first win out of maiden grade. BIG PAT’S PONTIAC (4) looks to be near peak fitness and showed a stack of improvement last time.
Race 2: BM64 Handicap 1400m
DIAMOND DIVA (7) has been so consistent this time in, she got her first win out of maiden grade last start at Ballarat when up on the speed. She has versatility but from the wider draw expect that she will press on and look for that spot outside the speed.
Dangers:
OUR SEA GODDESS (12) is an interesting runner, she won her maiden across the ditch before a nice effort at her Australian debut at the Valley where she was runner-up and didn’t have much luck. The draw is a worry but it won’t be long before she is winning on our shores. CHEVAUX (5) is consistent, he will get a mile back though from the wide draw and may need to be ridden for luck. PARSIFAL (2) looks the leader but may just have to do too much work early from the wide draw. He will give a sight if able to get to that spot cheaply.
Race 3: BM70 Handicap 1700m
RUOMAZA (5) won on debut in NZ then came straight here. He has won two of three since, should be able to settle closer from the good draw and will be running on hard.
Dangers:
NANGAWOOKA (10) may be a play at big odds, he will try and carve across and get a spot on the speed. Not a bad place to be when there is a big field like this. ABERRO (15) was easy in the market when beaten as favourite last time, he did run on well but had every chance. This looks no easier. TIGEEN (16) beat up on the girls last time in an easier race, although her winning margin wasn’t huge, she was dominant late and charged through the line. The extra distance looks to suit.
Race 4: BM78 Handicap 1500m
TRULY DISCREET (10) drops a stack in class here, she was ok at Flemington at Group Two level when up on the speed. She will roll forward again here, if she can control the tempo from the front or outside the leader she will be very hard to run down.
Dangers:
ONEHUNDRED PERCENT (9) will find this a little tougher than last time, he officially ran 5th but he had the fastest last furlong and was powerful through the line. REWARDING EFFORT (5) has been out of the winners stall a long time, he was good through the line fresh after being held-up so he may have come back better this prep. TEZLAH (6) will have admirers but expect him to be very easy in the betting, a get back horse that is inconsistent. At his best he can run over the top of them but happy to lay him if he is single figures.
Race 5: BM84 Handicap 1200m
SATORI (8) has been a little costly at his last couple after being well backed at the short quotes, he did have excuses at Ballarat after knuckling badly at the start and giving away some ground. He hit the line well and is versatile, expect him to go forward here.
Dangers:
QIJI PHOENIX (9) is an interesting runner, came from NZ undefeated after three starts then went to Queensland and had a shocker on the heavy track. Was sent out for more than a year and was ok fresh, will have come on from that run and wouldn’t be coming south for nothing. TOY BOY (7) is a last start winner in 78 grade up on the speed whilst CHOISBORDER (3) comes back in grade and never runs a bad race.
Race 6: Geelong Classic 3YO 2200m
TOLEMAC (10) ($31 in the Derby) won on debut, went to Flemington for the Derby trial and although he had every chance, he looks like he still has plenty left in him. He was a little one paced, that may have just been second0up syndrome but he kept grinding away. Expect that he will be up on the speed here, if he is to be a force in the Derby he will want to be dominant here from the top end.
Dangers:
ALESSANDRO (8) ($21 in the Derby) really appreciated getting out past the 2000m for the first time at Cranbourne, he had been running on well over the shorter trips and really drew clear inside the last 50m last time. The extra trip looks to suit. TRANSACT (7) is a Waterhouse/Bott runner that has put two together north of the border in much easier races. The stable is flying. LOUIE THE LEGEND (6) ($31 in the Derby) has to overcome the shocking barrier and will be hustled forward early. Needs to get up on the speed cheaply.
Race 7: Geelong Cup 2400m
FINCHE (1) ($31 in Melb Cup) is having his first Australian start, now with the Chris Waller stable he was last seen winning at Group Three level in Germany and was competitive at the highest level in France previously. 11 weeks in between runs, watch for any late money for him.
Dangers:
WITHHOLD (3) ($16 in Melb Cup) is another here on a Cup mission, he has only had short preps in his career but is a winner over two miles. Should be ready to fire first-up. CASTERTON (6) ($101 in the Melb Cup) is another new addition to the Waller yard from Europe, has won over the trip. MIDTERM (7) ($101 in the Melb Cup) didn’t have much luck in the Metrop and has the fitness edge over some of his main rivals here. So hard with the internationals, if you like one it may be best to have a futures bet in the Cup also.
Race 8: Black Pearl Stakes Fillies and Mares 1200m
IN GOOD TIME (2) gets the addition of the blinkers for the first time here, she won her first 6 on the bounce before coming south, has chased solidly at both starts and she looks set for this. With the gear change and the good gate, expect that she will be on the speed for a long way.
Dangers:
COOL PASSION (1) was ok in the lead-up, she is also third-up here and should be at peak fitness. She may have the back of her main danger in the run so will need to sprint when she does. CRYSTAL FOUNTAIN (5) will be mid-field and running on, LEATHER ‘N’ LACE (7) was closing hard in the lead-up at Caulfield that many of these came through.
Race 9: BM70 Handicap 1200m
Tough way to finish the card, expect that there will be each-way odds offered about the field here at some stage of betting between now, Monday, and race time. REILMARTINI (2) has been a given a quiet trial in preparation for this fresh run, his only other first-up run he won on debut. PREVAILING WINDS (4) gets a soft run off the inside draw and should finish hard, I DID IT AGAIN (5) is consistent but still has not won out of maiden grade on debut. MASTERING (7) would have been the clear top pick had it not been for the shocking draw. He was good at Flemington in a harder race when having no luck. Play wide in the Quaddie.
