Sandown Racing Tips

Track: Good 4. Rail: True.

Best Bet: Race 4 – JENKINS

=====

Race 1: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1200m

ISLAND DAZE (1) is resuming for her second career preparation, she won on debut and raced consistently through her first six starts. She looks suited by the small field, watch for any money around for her here first-up.

Dangers:

SOUL STAR (2) looks the obvious danger, she is yet to win out of maiden grade but her run when resuming last time at the Valley was super. She sat wide and kept coming through the line and looks to have come back well from the paddock. NO REWARD (3) looks the other winning hope, she was good at Caulfield recently in a race that has proven to be a good form reference. GRAND WISH (4) looks the next best, she is resuming and was a little enigmatic when last in work so would prefer to see how she has come back from the paddock before recommending.

Race 2: Maiden Plate 1200m

SUNRISE DANCER (10) has placed at four of her five career starts, she has been a little costly for punters at this early stage of her career but the ability is there. She had her chance last time at Caulfield where she loomed to win, prior to that she sprinted quickly but was all over the shop when losing 2nd in the steward’s room. Look for her late.

Dangers:

RONAN’S ROCK (7) is resuming for the Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig team, he showed ability at his first two starts before being sent to the paddock. Look for any money for him, no doubt he would have bulked up in the 5 months he has been away from the track. THERE YOU ARE (8) has only had one start and that was up the straight at Flemington three weeks ago, he was big odds that day when not beaten far, without a lot of luck late. That race has had three subsequent winners come out of it, he won’t have to improve much off that run to be winning this. AGE OF CHIVALRY (5) is also resuming after two solid efforts to start his career, he has shown speed so expect him to go forward.

Race 3: 3YO BM64 Handicap 1200m

MORE SUNDAYS (6) was a big winner on debut back in August at Geelong, was sent north to a harder race than this when beaten as favourite after showing speed. He is another Fastnet Rock colt resuming that should have taken a lot of benefit from the time in the paddock, expect that he will be very well backed and be hard to run down.

Dangers:

HAWKSHOT (3) has been good at both runs back, he over-raced last time when beaten as favourite after doing a few things wrong. He gets a couple of gear changes and draws to get the soft run. HALVORSEN (1) was sent to the paddock after winning his maiden, he resumed as a very short priced favourite in 58 class at Bairnsdale and brained them. The draw hurts and this is harder, but he clearly has come back well from the paddock. ELIGERE (2) was a maiden winner on debut at huge odds, he draws well and should have the cold sit on the leaders.

Race 4: BM64 Handicap 1600m

JENKINS (4) was a brilliant winner when resuming at Cranbourne a couple of weeks ago, he was well back in the run before improving wide to run on hard and get clear late. There have been two subsequent winners come out of that race so the form line is holding up. He should be able to settle closer from the good draw.

Dangers:

CINCINATTI RED (6) is yet to win out of maiden grade, she is very consistent but a little worrying that she has the inside draw. She may need a little luck getting away from the rail when the runs come. SENRIMA TIDE (5) will get back, he ran on well enough in a harder race resuming and did place at his only other second-up run. SEATTLE PARK (3) also has a good record second-up from two attempts, his sectionals late when resuming at Caulfield were good.

Race 5: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1600m

MOSH MUSIC (8) could not have been any more impressive resuming at Geelong, she was having her first go out of maiden grade, settled mid-field before running on hard and charging clear for a 4-length win. She has to step up in grade again here but looks to have come back well.

Dangers:

CASH AFFAIR (3) has been very good this campaign, she may have a five next to her name from her last run at Flemington, but she was beaten under a length and ran on hard from a mile back. She will need to get the back of the top selection in the run home to get the better of her. PURE SCOT (2) was also good at Flemington on New Years Day, that race looks to be a good form reference. MISS ADEQUATE (4) is a last start winner in an easier race and will get all the favours off the inside draw. She will be big odds a must include for all exotic bet types.

Race 6: BM64 Handicap 1400m

PEKO (10) has not finished further back than 2nd at her 5 career starts, she gets no favours here with the wide draw but will go forward at the start. If she can get cover early or get to the spot outside the leader, she should finish the race off well.

Dangers:

ABSOLUTE HEAVEN (11) showed a stack of speed to lead for a long way at Flemington last time, that was in a harder race against the girls. If she is able to dictate again, she should be hard to run down. SWORN EVIDENCE (8) has had her chances at her last couple, she doesn’t have a lot of brilliance but will keep coming in the straight. RENEGADE (4) is another that will rely on getting a position up on the speed early, he will find this a lot easier than what he contested last time and the blinkers go off.

Race 7: BM70 Handicap 1200m

GOLD MAG (3) is resuming, he won his first two career starts before being beaten as a short-priced favourite and then went to the paddock. He has showed good tactical speed so Zahra should have all the options off the inside draw. Look for any money, if it comes, he looks one of the best on the card.

Dangers:

Forget that MAGNESIUM ROSE (5) went around at Caulfield last time, she was running on well before being held-up inside the last furlong and was not ridden out through the line. Tough ask from the draw but must be included in exotics. TIN HAT (14) is a last start winner at Sandown when leading throughout, he has shown versatility and I don’t expect him to be leading this. BRAVO TANGO (2) has a stack of gear changes and may improve.

Race 8: BM70 Handicap 2100m

NOTHIN’ LIKE HARRY (4) should be up on the speed, he was good in a harder race at Flemington last time when he fought back strongly after being headed. That has proved a good form reference that race, he should be making his own luck up on the speed.

Dangers:

PRINCE ZIGGY (5) has been up for a long time but is racing so consistently, he gets in well with the claim but is likely to get further back here from the awkward draw. If he gets a cart into it he will be hard to hold out late. RIPPLEBROOK (6) gets a few gear changes, he had been racing well before having no luck in the same race as Prince Ziggy last time, forget he even went around there. JOHNNY VINKO (3) has had 6 weeks between runs, he was ok in a harder race here when last seen up on the speed. He may have to work a little from the draw, but if he can get across on the speed without working too hard, he can place.
