Moonee Valley Racing Tips

Track: Good 4. Rail: True

Best Bet: Race 7 – PALAZZIO VECCHIO

=====

Race 1: 3YO Maiden Plate 1200m

Four of the eleven have not raced so watch for any money for them. Of the raced brigade, COZHECANCAN (4) is resuming, was good on debut then had no luck at start number two. This looks easier, watch for any money for him resuming. FANTIZZY GIRL (8) is a stablemate form the Weir yard, she improved at her latest when well supported at double figure odds. BEERZ WITH CLINT (2) has had enough chances, coming to the races for the 8th time, he will hit the line hard but looks a good risk. He is unplaced at his two runs here at the track. As stated earlier, watch for any money for those on debut, in particular SCORPIOS SUNSET (7).

Race 2: Maiden Plate 1600m

NORTH AFRIKA (2) must be frustrating for his owners, he has placed at his last five but just keeps finding one better. He will go forward from the wide gate, if he can lead, he will be hard to beat but would be happy to lay in the run if he doesn’t get to the rail.

Dangers:

THE BALD EAGLE (4) resumed at Newcastle but looked very one paced, he trialed well prior to that and did take a few runs to get going last prep. CARAVAN (8) ran on well on debut to place and should appreciate getting out to the mile. SCHERZER (5) has placed at both runs this prep running on hard from the back. Look for him late.

Race 3: 3YO Fillies BM64 Handicap 1500m

SOARING EAGLE (8) was a big drifter in the market in a similar race here a week ago, she had to sit wide throughout but didn’t shirk the task late. She has the inside gate tonight and tactical speed, if she jumps away with them the jock should have the option to lead or take a sit. Either way, she maps beautifully.

Dangers:

MADE ME SHIVER (7) is a last start maiden winner against the girls, she will obviously find this harder. She has speed and led all the way, the key to her is if she has to sit off the rail or not. DESPACITO (4) is also a last start maiden winner against her own sex, she did it from the other end running on hard form the back. The sped could be good so she comes right into calculations. Not a lot went right for ROCK DOVE (5) winning her maiden last time but she showed toughness to score. This is harder.

Race 4: Class 1 Handicap 1500m

CIRCULATE (10) was a good maiden winner two back, she then went to a 64-grade race on the border, was just off leaders but showed great acceleration to take the lead and was only nabbed in the last stride. She maps well and carries no weight.

Dangers:

ENCANTO (4) draws well down on the inside, on paper it looks as though the extra trip doesn’t suit as he hit the lead late and was run-down last time, but he was first-up and will have taken plenty from that run. MR JAMMO (5) is a last start maiden winner, he will go forward again after leading all the way at Cranbourne. MAY BE FATE (6) is another that won its maiden the last time he was at the races, he may have been suited by the way the race was run but he was off the track throughout.

Race 5: BM78 Handicap 955m

SAM’S IMAGE (6) is an interesting runner at the new stable, resuming in an easier race than what he had been tackling when last in work. He draws beautifully and should have the sit on the leaders over this very short trip, would like to see some money for him though.

Dangers:

REWARD WITH RETURN (8) was seen here last week in an easier version of this challenge, he got back and had no luck when held-up at a vital stage. If they go crazy, as they usually do in these, he can finish strong if ridden for luck. KAKANUI (7) had plenty go against him at Pakenham, he has a terrific record (3-2-1-0) when racing second-up. BELWAZI (4) races well here but may need a little luck from the horror draw. Everything needs to go right to win these 955m dashes.

Race 6: BM64 Handicap 2500m

FRANKED (9) was new to Australia when stepping out in an easier maiden at Gawler 6 weeks ago, he was beautifully ridden to get win number one. First-up after more than year that day, you would only think he will improve off that run and the distance shouldn’t be an issue.

Dangers:

MAN ALIVE (10) is only lightly raced, he was having his first go out of maiden grade last time when having no luck in a race where he was held-up and the tempo was against. He looks to on the way up. DUKE OF OZ (8) was a winner on the heavy track last time, he absolutely destroyed them and if the rain comes, he has to come into calculations. BRINGIT (3) would have been at the top of selections had it not been for the poor draw, just hard to see him not being wide throughout here.

Race 7: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 2040m

PALAZZO VECCHIO (2) went into everyone’s blackbook last time here a fortnight ago. She was mid-field before saving ground, ran right up behind the leader approaching the straight and was never tested. She draws well again and certainly doesn’t lose anything with Oliver going on.

Dangers:

PLAY THAT SONG (6) has been consistent this time in without getting the desired results, likely to be giving them a decent start, she can go close with the blinkers back on again. FRENCH GIRL (8) will probably roll forward from the wide draw, if she can get cover up on the speed, she will be hard to get past late. QUEEN LEONORA (9) rarely runs a bad race, she also didn’t have much luck here last time in the same race the top pick came through.

Race 8: BM64 Handicap 1200m

Field job in the last leg of the Quaddie, a lot will depend if the emergencies get a run or not. If so, CINCINNATI RED (15) will go to the top of the picks, she bolted in to win her maiden two back then went to Sandown in this grade and was only narrowly beaten after a torrid run, wide without cover. She is drawn out again but any luck and she looks a good thing.

Dangers:

If she doesn’t get a start then I don’t know where to look. DOCTOR COTO (9) is racing well and is drawn to get a good run, she has good speed and will probably try to lead all the way. SHIR (8) was ok resuming after not having much luck and being held-up at a vital stage. He is a winner at his only other second-up run. McGARRETT (6) is only lightly raced, he was having his first look at the Valley when resuming here a fortnight ago and although he did things wrong, he ran on hard. BOORADLEY (5) is resuming and has a good record fresh, drawn well and has a quiet trial under his belt.
