Caulfield Racing Tips
Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 9m entire circuit.
Best Bet: Race 9 – MR MONEY BAGS
=====
Race 1: BM78 Handicap 1100m
TONY NICCONI (1) has had all four career starts here at the track, he is resuming today off a 15-week spell and is already a Group winner. He has good tactical speed, claims three off the big weight and should have all the options off the inside gate.
Dangers:
SAM’S IMAGE (5) is also very speedy, his two runs back from a spell have been very good and is a winner at his only run at the track. If he finds the top, he will be hard to run down. I GOT YOU (6) returns to the races as a gelding and has a stack of gear changes, he is an interesting runner that comes across the ditch for the first time. MYSTYKO (7) has won two on the trot, he is very consistent and will roll forward but doubtful if he can win from the breeze.
Race 2: Handicap 2400m
SECOND BULLET (2) took a while to wind-up at Flemington when running on hard to win two starts back, he then came here on Australia Day and was running on well before racing tight late. He probably should have finished closer that day, he small field suits, look for him late.
Dangers:
KHEZERABAD (5) was a winner over the longer trip at big odds last time at Flemington, he gets a good pull in the weights and should also be suited by the small field. He would need to be in front of Second Bullet as they enter the straight though. CRAFTY DEVIL (4) comes through the same form line as the top selection but was big odds that day and a little one-paced. PISSARO (7) next best but he looks a good risk up in this grade and happy to take him on.
Race 3: Fillies and Mares BM84 Handicap 1400m
NAANTALI (2) ran on hard when well backed last start, she was solid all the way through her last prep and should be nearing peak fitness now. She has placed at two runs at this track, maps beautifully and should be getting the soft run.
Dangers:
AMORTENTIA (3) is very consistent, she will go forward and probably take up the running. If she doesn’t have to work too hard, she will be hard to run down. OCEAN DEEP (6) has been consistent this time in, he had every chance when resuming off a 5-week break last time. MAGNESIUM ROSE (4) is also an acceptor on Friday night at the Valley, she is up in grade here from her last start at Sandown where she was ok but had every chance.
Race 4: BM84 Handicap 2000m
PRINCE ZIGGY (4) has been up a long time but is racing so consistently that they may be afraid to put him in the paddock! He will roll forward on the speed and gets a good claim, look how the track is playing early and if the on-pace runners are prominent, he will be hard to run past.
Dangers:
CALIBRATION (5) was brave in defeat in an easier race last time, Williams goes on which looks a positive jockey change and he has versatility. GOOD IDEA (8) maps to get a soft run, he comes through the same form reference as a few of these and although he has been trying to lead of late, he may be better suited to take the sit on them here. LAMBORGHINI (1) has been very consistent this time in, he was not suited the way the race was run last time when making ground from the back.
Race 5: Chairman’s Stakes 2YO 1000m
Four of the ten runners are on debut here, these 2YO evens can be very tricky as these well bred types can improve dramatically from one start to the next. BELLA ROSA (1) won on debut, she raced up on the speed up the straight and was far too good. This is her first go around a bend but if she can bring that same form from her debut run, she will be hard to beat.
Dangers:
LANIGERA (3) showed plenty of speed on debut, he is resuming here and will have improved after his time in the paddock no doubt. Watch for any money for those on debut, in particular SEA TONIC (9) off the inside gate and LOVING GABY (8) who is also drawn well and is a recent trial winner.
Race 6: BM84 Handicap 1600m
SACRED THEME (11) is now officially in the Mclean stable from Team Weir, he ran on well to win at the Bool two back then went to Flemington where he made ground back along the inside. Big jockey change with Williams going on, maps to get a perfect run in transit. Look for him late.
Dangers:
MOUNT KILCOY (9) was super at his first prep, he resumed at Flemington where he worked to the line well in a race where he wasn’t suited by the tempo. ANTAH (7) has won four straight including both starts this prep, he has shown that he has versatility and can go forward or back. Must be respected and can handle the next step up in class. KACHING (5) has been good at both runs this prep, he ran on hard fresh before not having much luck last time at Flemington.
Race 7: W.J. Adams Stakes Handicap 1000m
NATURE STRIP (1) is fast, very fast. He showed he was up to the best sprinters in the land last prep, at one stage was thrown around as an Everest hopeful. His latest run was in the Moir where he simply worked too hard, he looks thrown in here if he is ready to go and the recent Weir scandal hasn’t affected his prep.
Dangers:
If he is solid in the betting and the Weir horses are still going well enough, there are no dangers. WRITTEN BY (4) is also very speedy but is taking on the older horses. He won’t be able to match it with the top weight early and impossible to see him running past that gelding in the straight. ENCRYPTION (7) and MISSROCK (5) next best, but look minor place chances only.
Race 8: Manfred Stakes 3YO Set Weights and Penalties 1200m
RINGERDINGDING (1) really established himself as a star of the future over the Spring carnival, he went into everyone’s black book three starts back at the Valley with an eye-catching run, two wins at Flemington and Sandown since when unleashing powerful bursts of speed from the back. He has won fresh, if the speed is on, he will be the one finishing the best.
Dangers:
POISED TO STRIKE (9) has had a 6-week freshen up since his last start win up the straight, he travelled brilliantly in the run that day and cruised to the front at the furlong for a dominant win. TIN HAT (10) has won both starts this prep, he looks the leader and depending on how the track is playing throughout the day, he may be very well supported. If the on-pacers on the rails have been dominant, he rockets to the top pick. FUNDAMENTALIST (11) is resuming and has won fresh, has speed and maps to be camped right behind the leader.
Race 9: BM84 Handicap 1400m
MR MONEY BAGS (7) looks het best on the programme and the big field will ensure that he starts well over the odds. He won a similar race to this at Flemington after he sat three-wide without cover on the speed over the 1400m, something that only good horses can do. He then came out in the Chester Manifold at Listed level las time, didn’t have much room over the last couple of furlongs and ran on well to narrowly miss a place. He just wins.
Dangers:
HEPTAGON (10) had every chance when narrowly missing las time out, the blinkers go off and he is drawn to get a cheap run. CRITICAL THINKING (11) looks the leader from the good gate, he is a last start winner but will need a few cheap sectionals through the middle. STREETS OF AVALON (12) will go forward but may have to sit outside the speed. Stick with the top pick.
