TopBetta History
TopBetta was founded in 2010 and was initially positioned as a fantasy wagering business. They launched their social gaming platform in 2011, which was their core business until the introduction of their bookmaking service.
On 11 December 2015, TopBetta was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange as TopBetta Holdings Limited (TBH), with TopBetta Pty Ltd existing as its largest subsidiary.
In 2017 TBH completed the acquisition of another Australian-owned wagering operator in Madbookie.
In April of 2018, TopBetta was purchased by PlayUp Australia. The group also acquired ClassicBet, Mad Bookie and Draftstars.
TBH and its subsidiaries are licensed to operate in the UK and US.
Fantasy Betting Tournaments
Fantasy Betting Tournaments are a competitive wagering product that involve participants being pitted against one another in a pool-based tournament across racing.
Entry is either free of charge (for smaller comps) or gained through a prescribed buy-in cost, often you’ll get the option to rebuy should your funds run out before the conclusion of the event. The required buy-in money is real, but the dollars bet aren’t. In TopBetta’s case they convert AUD to BettaBucks, which players can then wager on whatever events fall within a given tournament.
Payouts vary according to the tournament rules and prize pool sizes. Some competitions are Winner Takes All; others are Top 3 tournaments that reward the top three placegetters, with a weighted distribution of funds that naturally favours the higher finishers; lastly there are Multiple Placing tournaments, which will payout to a number of places relative to the number of entrants, and the number of entrants that actually qualify for the prize.
