Flemington Racing Tips

Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 3m entire circuit

Best Bet: Race 8 – SIXTIES GROOVE

=====

Race 1: 3YO Fillies Handicap 1400m

SHALWA (6) has good tactical speed and from the good draw will be looking for the top. She was game in defeat at Sandown when sitting outside the leader, this 1400m at Flemington can bring so many undone when wide, she should be on the speed and on the rail.

Dangers:

MAGNESIUM ROSE (1) is drawn a little awkwardly but she was impressive last start at Caulfield. This is her first time here at Flemington, if she can get cover early she will be finishing as good as anything with the 60kg. SEDUCTIVE MISS (2) was huge odds when beating home Shalwa last start, she was beautifully ridden that day and should map in a similar position. NAANTALI (3) is versatile in where she can settle she has shown that she can do it at both ends. This is her hardest test though.

Race 2: Fillies and Mares BM84 Handicap 1700m

SO SPLENDID (7) comes through a different formline to most of these, it will be interesting to see if the money comes for her after placing at her first two runs this campaign north of the border. She will be mid-field, gets the good claim and carries no weight and has placed here previously.

Dangers:

LINGUIST (6) has been a little plain at her last couple but back on the bigger track with the claim today, she should be hitting the line hard. She is a winner here previously. MILES OF KRISHAN (1) gets out in trip, it should suit her as she raced more like a middle-distance horse last time. She was left flat-footed before running on well late. ANOTHER BULLSEYE (4) will get a cheap run, most likely the spot behind the leader or one further back on the rail. If she gets any luck she should have plenty to offer late.

Race 3: BM90 Handicap 2500m

CROCODILE ROCK (4) is first-up off a long break here but these imports have showed previously that they can do that. He was tackling the best stayers in the land last time in work, he will again race handy and no doubt be ready to win. This is certainly not his grand final but he should be ready to go.

Dangers:

FALAGO (2) won the Banjo Patterson final for stayer’s here last time, he was favoured by a solid early tempo though which is unlikely here. If he gets that similar pattern, he will be running on hard again. THUNDER CLOUD (8) will be the more fancied of the Weir runners, he has been so consistent this time in but usually needs an ounce of luck with his pattern of getting back. TIFFANY’S LASS (11) will be a price but was a good last start winner on the speed and there doesn’t appear to be a lot of pace on paper in this.

Race 4: BM78 Handicap 1200m

A lot will depend on whether the emergencies get a start or not in the huge field. If so, EDUARDO (21) will likely be the one to beat and be at the head of the betting. He is the most inexperienced runner in the field, but his two wins to date have been so impressive. It will be the first time up the straight six for him, but with the outside stall and speed to burn, he will be on the pace throughout. He could be star.

Dangers:

If he doesn’t get a start it looks a very open race. OVERSTEP (13) will appreciate coming back in trip, with the capacity field the speed should be on so look for him jumping over the top of them late from back in the field. MYSTIFIED (7) has been racing well across the border in SA, she has speed and is also drawn wide which may be advantageous in the first of the straight races. ARTIE DEE TWO (5) comes through the same formline in Adelaide, he was doing his best work late in that race and is consistent of late.

Race 5: Byerley Handicap 2YO 1800m

A tricky race with the babies rarely seen out beyond the mile here in Australia, SO YOU SWING (6) has to rise in trip from the 7 furlongs last time, she looked as though further should suit her as she just grinded home last time. She should appreciate the long straight and run the trip right out.

Dangers:

LIFT (3) has only had the one start, he was good on the heavy track at Ballarat and ran through the line well. VISAO (2) was a maiden winner last start at Mildura when racing up in the speed, expect that he will roll forward again early. FUN FACT (1) won north of the border over the mile, as is standard from this yard expect him to roll forward and try to lead all the way.

Race 6: Super VOBIS 3YO Handicap 1100m

BRAVE SONG (1) is resuming and had tackled some of the best races for his age group last campaign, he has trialed ok but will be giving them a start. This is his first crack up the straight here at HQ, his two other fresh runs have netted him a win and a second. Look for him late.

Dangers:

ORDER OF COMMAND (4) has been here before, he will also get back but has been very consistent this time in. he is drawn closer in which may be at a disadvantage at this time of the day up the straight. KENNEDY (3) was well beaten when taking on the older horses last time but had excuses, he was checked at a vital stage when moving into it nicely at the 300m mark. DUCIMUS (2) was beaten out of sight last time but there is no Nature Strip in this and he did over-race. This is much easier, if he can settle in the run he will run on hard.

Race 7: Super VOBIS 3YO Handicap 1600m

STREETS OF AVALON (5) is on the 7-day back-up, he was good at Caulfield last week after having excuse sin the run before kicking back once headed in the straight. He has been consistent this time in when racing on top of the ground.

Dangers:

NIGHT FALLS (4) will have plenty of supporters, he has been up for a long time at what is only his second campaign but is still racing well. He has won two in a row after two nice rides, he doesn’t map as well here and looks a good risk. AL PASSEM (3) wasn’t suited by the way the race was run last time and was very plain late, he should be the leader for a long way. If he can get a couple of cheap sectionals through the middle, he will be hard to run down. MR MONEY BAGS (2) is a two-time winner here at the track including last start when ridden just off the speed. He maps beautifully again from the good draw but just has to deal with the big weight.

Race 8: Handicap 2000m

SIXTIES GROOVE (6) couldn’t have been more impressive breaking through for his maiden Australian win last time here a fortnight ago, He was perfectly ridden behind the speed, ran into it under a stranglehold before exploding away and winning easily. This looks a little harder, but he has a stack of potential and when these Weir horses get there confidence up, they are hard to stop.

Dangers:

TRAP FOR FOOLS (3) comes through a formline against the top pick two starts back when he was close-up after doing a stack of work. He should be nearing full fitness here third-up and the trip certainly isn’t an issue. MORTON’S FORK (2) has the bad draw but will get back early anyway, he will run on well enough. PACODALI (1) is poorly drawn, he actually beat home the top selection last time they raced and does meet him better at the weights, just not sure that he has improved like the weir runner has.

Race 9: BM90 Handicap 1000m

The last of the straight races of the day and we stick with last start winner INVINCIBLE AL (4). He has won here previously, his win in Adelaide a month ago was super after being forced to work wide and on the speed. If being drawn in close is not a disadvantage he will be hard to beat.

Dangers:

ROCKET TOMMY (2) has a terrific record up the straight here winning 3 from 5, he has good speed and will be one of the leaders towards the inside division. WISE HERO (5) is drawn out in what may very well be the best part of the track, he will be giving his main dangers a start but will be running on hard. DANCE WITH FONTEIN (7) has been up a while but looks a chance if she comes here. She needs to improve on her record up the straight though.
