Doomben

We’re back at Doomben this Wednesday where the track is rated a Good 4 as of Tuesday with the rail out 6.5m between the 800m and 400m and 4.5m the remainder.  There is a high chance of showers and storms over the coming days so a downgrade looks likely.

Race 1

Wigglesworth (3) didn’t get a lot of luck in the straight last start when finishing 1.2 lengths from Just Orm in a Saturday Class 3 over this distance.  He was tightened for room in the straight when looking to make his run.  He did get going once clear.  From barrier 2 Brad Stewart can go forward and prove hard to run down.

Other Hopes:

Colinelle (1) resumes here and is undefeated in 2 fresh runs.  Looked a promising type last preparation in 3 year old company when winning in Saturday class.  Struggled when racing older horses but did have excuses.  Should be prominent in the run.

All Troops (2) has been in consistent form this preparation.  Shouldn’t be too far away in the small field and will be running on late.

Tactician (4) resumes here and does race well fresh.  Finished a close 2nd to Quatronic 1st up last preparation.  Will look to go forward but could be trapped 3 deep.

Race 2

Kuznetsova (3) has come back this preparation in good form.  She ran on for 2nd at the Sunshine Coast when resuming before giving them a touch up by 4 lengths at Toowoomba last start.  She’ll be fitter here 3rd up.  The outside barrier isn’t ideal but I expect Josh Oliver to find a spot close to the action.  She’s undefeated on soft going.

Other Hopes:

Viaductress (1) resumes here on the back of a trial win.  Hasn’t been in the placings in 3 fresh runs but this is easier than what she has faced in Sydney.  Drawn to get a great run.

I Like Candy (2) has been racing well lately.  Was run down last start when finishing 2nd at Eagle Farm in this class.

Snitzel’s Joy (6) resumed with a narrow win at the Sunshine Coast last start.  This is harder but the blinkers go on for the 1st time and from the inside gate she could prove hard to catch.

Race 3

This isn’t a race I want to get too involved in.  D’amore D’merrier (10) was sent out favourite when on debut at the Gold Coast over 1300m last start.  She finished 1.7 lengths from the winner which I thought was a good effort considering she was never closer than 3 wide.  She’ll be fitter here and is drawn to get a much better run.

Other Hopes:

Ercolano (2) has come back quite well this preparation.  She ran 2nd last start to Dot Painting over 1350m here, easily defeating the rest of the field.  Will need some luck from the outside gate but is better than most of these.

Dee Cee Delights (1) finished 2nd to Red Saga last start at the Sunshine Coast over 1600m.  I thought it was a really good effort as she was left to cart the rest of the field up trying to catch the leader but still fought on strongly.

Awesome More (6) should appreciate the extra distance after running on well at her past few starts.

Race 4

Medieval (1) returns to Brisbane after racing in a couple of Highway races his past 2 starts.  While she failed last start, his form prior to that was quite good.  Two starts back he finished he ran on well to finish a narrow 2nd over 1800m.  The start prior to that he won here over this trip and in this class.  He brings better form into this race than his opponents and should enjoy a great run from the inside gate.

Other Hopes:

Makuru (6) has put in 2 good efforts since coming to Queensland.  She’s run on well at both starts suggesting that the extra distance here will suit.

Agree To (2) disappointed last start when sent out a short priced favourite at the Gold Coast last start.  I’m prepared to forgive him for that as it was his 3rd run back from a long spell.  The 2 starts prior to that were very good.

Pinolino (4) resumed last start with a 5.3 length 2nd at Ipswich over 1350m.  She’ll be fitter 2nd up and did run well over this distance last preparation.

Race 5

Clever Blaze (7) resumes here.  He ran 2nd to All Over Bossanova on debut and we know that horse is a real speedster.  Clever Blaze’s form during his 1st preparation was very good.  He was competitive against some good 3 year olds and finished with 3 2nds from 5 starts.  That sort of form is better than what most of these bring to the table.  The outside barrier isn’t ideal but he has enough speed to get across and find a spot in the 1st 5.

Other Hopes:

Crackacharge (2) resumes here after a short break.  He raced well in the 2 starts he had prior to the spell.  He’ll be prominent in the run.

Rock On Destiny (1) resumes here with blinkers on for the 1st time.  He put in a good effort when finishing 2nd at Eagle Farm at his only start last preparation.  Will be running on.

Pixie Hollow (9) is on debut and hasn’t been seen publicly.  Drawn well and the appointment of Jeff Lloyd should be seen as a positive.

Race 6

Hidden Budget (6) has come back this preparation in good form.  After finishing a close 2nd when resuming, she came out and won by 2.3 lengths at Eagle Farm over 1300m.  She’s drawn the outside gate here but she possesses early speed and can get across and find a forward spot as she did last start.  Jeff Lloyd takes the ride.

Other Hopes:

Ignite The Light (2) had his 1st run back in Brisbane last start after spending his last preparation in Sydney.  He did it in style with an easy 2.5 length win.  He’ll be improved 2nd up and will be prominent.

Stylian (4) took on a tough 3 year old race 2 starts back before running on quite well against older horses last start at Ipswich when finishing 1.7 lengths from the winner.  Can feature here.

Iron Craft (3) improved last start to win his maiden at the Gold Coast over 1300m.  He ran on well that day but may find himself too far back here.

Race 7

Passionflower (2) has been in consistent form since coming to Queensland.  In 5 starts she’s finished 2nd 4 times and won the other.  Last start she found the line well to finish 2nd at Eagle Farm in Class 6 company over 1400m.  The rise in distance here looks ideal.  She shouldn’t be too far away in the run before getting home strongly.

Other Hopes:

I Feel Good (4) won by 3.3 lengths over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast last start.  Gets in with a light weight after the 3kg claim.

Blackjack Bella (1) put in a top effort 2 starts when finishing 2nd to Arki at the Sunshine Coast over 1800m.  She raced wide last start at Eagle Farm and didn’t feature but can hit back here from the better draw.

French Song (7) mixes her form but has the capabilities to show up here.  Narrowly lost over the course and distance 4 starts back.  Will go forward.

Race 8

This is a competitive race to end the day.  Pinch Mountain (11) resumes here and his best runs have been when he’s fresh.  Last preparation he went forward over this course and distance and was never headed when breaking his maiden status.  This is obviously harder but I think this guy has some ability.  From the good draw Larry Cassidy can go forward and will be hard to catch.

Other Hopes:

Kubis (10) can deliver the quinella for Rob Heathcote.  He resumes following a very good preparation where he was highly competitive against some good 3 year olds.

Doubt She’s A Lady (4) resumed here last start with a really good win.  She was having her 1st race for Chris Munce and she really let down to come from the back of the pack. Will be improved.

Kapgun (1) has been racing well in this class.  Will go forward from the awkward draw but could get trapped deep.  The claim helps.

Best Bets

Race 4 – Medieval (1)

Race 7 – Passionflower (2)
