Race 1: Super VOBIS Maiden Plate 2030m
RIVER MIST (12) has placed at two of her three career starts, she was well supported as favourite at Cranbourne last time where she didn’t have a lot of luck when held-up at a vital stage before running on strongly. She is drawn well and won’t be a maiden much longer.
Dangers:
ON OUR HONOUR (11) has placed at two of five, she chased hard last start but had every chance. She also maps well and will be right in behind the speed early. DON’T LOOK NOW (5) has been very consistent and looks the leader, the blinkers come off and he will be making his own luck. RUE DE RENNES (9) doesn’t have the greatest SP profile but she showed a stack of improvement last start and was strong through the line.
Race 2: Maiden Plate 1000m
BRASH STUDENT (3) has placed at both of his last two starts, he latest he was closing all the time off a good run in a race that has produced a subsequent winner from it. He has shown that he has tactical speed, expect that he will kick through and try to lead here.
Dangers:
MASTER ROCK (5) has placed at his only two career runs, both times he has shown speed, the latest he was forced to sit three-wide on the speed and still wasn’t beaten far. He may have to sit outside the speed again and may be vulnerable first-up. QUENTON (11) wasn’t beaten far on debut when racing up on the speed but draws poorly whilst INDIAN RANI (10) is an interesting runner for Weir, she was poor at both runs at her first campaign but should have come on during the time in the paddock.
Race 3: Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate 1200m
NO SHAME (11) showed ability at her first campaign but was poor at two runs last time in. She resumed after 14 weeks at Yarra Valley where she was very well backed into favouritism, was wide early before getting outside the speed and stuck on well to place. She should roll forward again and this looks no harder.
Dangers:
NOT A SINGLE WOMAN (15) showed improvement from start one to two, she was first up last time and ran on ok after being very wide on the turn. Stepping up a furlong in trip, should assist. GREETIE (7) gets the blinkers for the first time, she had every chance when resuming up on the speed and this looks harder. JUST LIKE MAGIC (8) is resuming, she showed some tactical speed at her debut and can improve here off a couple of poor runs last campaign.
Race 4: BM64 Handicap 1600m
It would be no shock to see any of the eight runners past the finishing line first here. CLEO’S POET (2) has been away from the track for 6 weeks and given a freshen up, he has good speed and looks the leader. He can over-race and get away from the field mid-race, just needs to settle better but does look better suited back in trip.
Dangers:
TOUR DOWN UNDER (1) will also be on the speed, he will find this easier than his latest assignment but just may have to chase the leader too hard. ROYAL ZEPHYR (5) may be the beneficiary of the speed that looks genuine, look for him late. WENTWORTH (6) was a good winner on debut but looked a little flat when second-up racing up in grade. He can improve and looks to have ability.
Race 5: 3YO BM64 Handicap 1000m
HIGH RATIO (1) has been gelded since we have last seen him in work, that was 23 weeks ago in a much harder race. It was at Group Three level where he missed the start, chased steadily and was only beaten 2.65 lengths. He drops back to a 64-grade event here, the wide barrier is of little concern and he should be too quick for these.
Dangers:
MONTENEGRO MAN (2) is an interesting runner, he was sent to the paddock 23 weeks ago after a nice debut win where he was forced to sit wide. This is harder obviously. BOLD TYPE (3) wasn’t far away in a harder race last time when he had no luck for a furlong being held-up badly. He hit the line well when finally clear over the last 150m. LA POMME DE PIN (4) has only won the one race and that was going the clockwise direction, she has speed and always shown the ability.
Race 6: Fillies and Mares BM64 Handicap 1000m
PERFECT PARTY (9) looks to have come back better after her time in the paddock, she resumed at Pakenham with a dominant victory after chasing hard on the speed. She draws well again and although this is harder, maps to get the perfect run.
Dangers:
ALAGADON MISS (6) is also a last start maiden winner, she was up on the speed and although it was only a length the official winning margin, there was another 3.5 lengths back to third. There has been another horse come out and win since from that maiden. INVINCIBLE AMICI (2) gets the right draw, she showed a lot more speed when resuming last start and was only run down late. She will have all the options from the good gate. DENTAL (4) is yet to win out of maiden grade, she will probably be giving them a start but will run on hard back in trip here.
Race 7: BM64 Handicap 2030m
HERE COMES LENNI (6) is so consistent, he needs everything to go right with his pattern of racing of getting back, but he will always run on hard. Yet to win out of maiden grade, the big field should ensure that the speed is on, the wide gate is of little concern as he will not be used up early.
Dangers:
ROCK DOVE (11) has placed at all three runs since winning her maiden, she looks a little vulnerable from the wide draw as she likes to go forward. If she can get to the spot outside the leader and control the race, she will be very hard to run past. ARGYLE BELLE (8) was a good winner in easier grade two starts back, then went to Cranbourne and was never on the track with the tempo against and failed to fire. Forget she went around there and looks much better suited with the soft rails run here. STORNAWAY (7) is a last start winner in this grade, he was favoured the way the race was run and does have to carry an extra 2kg here.
Race 8: BM70 Handicap 1200m
CLARICE CLIFFS (10) looks o have come back well from the spelling paddock, she notched up her forst win out of maiden grade at Geelong when sitting on the speed, railing hard and booting clear early n the straight. She was very short odds that day and although she tired a little late being first-up, the win was never in doubt. She draws perfectly and looks very hard to beat.
Dangers:
STEEL OF MADRID (9) had every chance in an easier race last time, he was beautifully ridden to find the front at the furlong pole, only to be run down late. He maps well again and is a must for all exotic bet types. TOORAK COWBOY (7) draws to get a soft run and WAZZENME (3) was good up the straight last time. Stick with the favourite, if there is support for her, she looks the best on the card, albeit short.
