The West Coast Eagles will likely know by the time the ball bounces whether or not they’re in with a chance of finals when they host the Adelaide Crows.
The Eagles are still every chance of playing finals this year but they do need some things to go their way just a little.
Melbourne losing to Collingwood would help. Essendon losing to Fremantle would be even better. But even if both win, the Eagles are still a chance.
What they would have to do in that case is beat the Bombers on percentage. However much Essendon win by, West Coast have to win by more, probably a hefty amount more.
The only thing standing in the way… is the best team in the league, the Adelaide Crows. And that’s why it’s an outside chance.
However the Crows also have every chance of knowing their ladder fate before this match even begins.
If the Cats have won on Saturday night, then Adelaide are guaranteed to finish on top of the ladder regardless of how this match goes – so long as they don’t lose by 400 points (not a typo).
Even if not, then the worst Adelaide can do is second, which doesn’t really make any big difference in the grand scheme of things.
For that reason, who knows, they just might take it a little easy in this one.
One change for the Eagles – Josh Hill out, dropped, Mark LeCras in. That’s probably the end of Hill’s career and this week might be the end of LeCras’.
Adelaide have Daniel Talia and Taylor Walker both out with minor injury, while Hugh Greenwood has been dropped.
They’ve brought in Kyle Hartigan, Wayne Milera and Paul Seedsman.
From the last six games between them, Adelaide and West Coast have won three each.
Feels like the upset could be on in this one, West Coast at $2.70 to win by 1-39 is something of an outlier, but good enough value.
