St Kilda and West Coast both still have a shot at finals, but it’s unlikely both can make it in, so their clash on Sunday of Round 20 is crucial.
Realistically speaking the Saints are probably out of the finals race – they’ve had some good moments during the year, but have fallen short too often.
Last week was an absolute heartbreaker – up by 10 late against Port Adelaide, only for the Power to swoop with two late goals and win the game.
That has left the Saints at 11th on the table with a 9-9 record. They probably need to win three or four of their remaining games to make finals.
That’ll be tough given who they come up against – after the Eagles, they’ve got Melbourne, North Melbourne and Richmond.
West Coast are a win ahead and find themselves sneaking into the eight at the moment, but they’re no guarantee to stay there.
After this match they’ve got Carlton next week, but then close out their season with two difficult assignments – GWS away, Adelaide at home.
Amazingly, their last eight matches have been flipping the switch back and forth between win and loss.
If you believe it kind of streak, you could say they are due for a loss after beating Brisbane comfortably at home last week.
St Kilda have Nick Riewoldt back in the side this week and also Koby Stevens, they’ve dropped Jack Lonie and Daniel McKenzie.
The Eagles have brought back Chris Masten to replace Tom Barrass, who misses with a groin injury.
The Eagles have won their last eight in a row over the Saints, with St Kilda’s last victory over them coming back in 2011.
This could easily go either way so the Eagles as outsiders are the better value, look at them to win by 1-39 for $2.70.
