Richmond vs GWS

Richmond host GWS with a grand final spot on the line while and old Tiger in Brett Deledio plays against his mates for the first time.

The Tigers are one win away from playing in a grand final for the first time in 35 years, a remarkable situation that none expected at the start of the year.

They finished third on the ladder but had the good fortune to play an MCG final in the first week, and now can play their entire finals campaign there if they win through.

As for GWS, they had to travel in the first week of finals to play the Adelaide Crows, and it did not go well – they were soundly beaten.

They’re now on the road again after a win at home over West Coast last week, and playing in front of the biggest crowd they’ve ever seen.

It’s an especially big game for Brett Deledio who plays just his sixth game with the Giants after 244 as a Tiger.

He moved to the Giants with the belief it could be the place he wins a flag – it’s remarkable that his old team might beat him to one yet.

Neither side has made any changes for this match. For Richmond that makes a lot of sense, they’ve got a stable best 22 on field.

For the Giants, it’s a bit surprising to not see Devon Smith given a game – he’s on the emergency list instead. He might have played his last game for the club.

Expect the crowd to be a big factor in this one. At least 95000 are expected and it’s going to be virtually all Richmond fans.

The noise will be at a level the Giants have never dealt with before and if that throws them off their game then the Tigers will take advantage.

$2.10 for Richmond to win by 1-39 isn’t incredible value, but it shapes as the most likely result.
