Port Adelaide and St Kilda are both pretty keen on re-joining the winners’ circle this week when they meet at Adelaide Oval.
While Port Adelaide have had a lot of good wins this year, they continued their struggle getting over the best sides last week. They were blown away early in their game against Melbourne and while they came back into it a bit, it wasn’t enough. Of the current top eight sides, they’ve only beaten one, Sydney, and that was back in Round 1 when the Swans were battling. Although they have one of the best percentages and are a top four chance, they’ll need to lift if they’re going to win games in finals.
St Kilda on the other hand are fighting a losing battle just to be a part of the finals race at the moment. While they’ve got a 9-8 record, they have an extremely difficult fixture to close out the year and might only win one more game. They’ve been able to fairly consistently beat the teams in the lower half of the ladder this year but just haven’t really risen up to the level of other finals fancies. They’ve only had two wins against the ten sides above them on the ladder, but haven’t lost to any of the teams below them. Their result last week as a 42-point loss to Sydney.
Port are missing Chad Wingard for this game but have dropped a trio of younger players to bring back experience, Joe Atley, Dan Houston and Austin Logan all getting the axe. Jack Hombsch, Aaron Young, Karl Amon and Jasper Pittard are their inclusions.
St Kilda have lost Koby Stevens and Leigh Montagna to injury, and decided to rest Nick Riewoldt. Tim Membrey, Brandon White and Maverick Weller are their inclusions.
Port Adelaide have won five in a row against St Kilda, including all three matches that the two clubs have played at Adelaide Oval. They should comfortably extend that this week. We’re on Port 1-39 @ $2.25.
