Port Adelaide will be looking to restore some of their confidence when they go up against Brisbane, who must surely have plenty.
The Power have arguably been one of the better teams in the league this year, and the fact they have the second-best percentage attests to this. However, they also boast only a 6-5 average – just barely ahead of the middle of the pack, and in the mix for but hardly guaranteed a top four spot. They suffered a rude shock at the hands of Essendon last week, and were made to look sloppy and lazy.
Brisbane on the other hand last week had the joy of giving someone else a rude shock, rising from the muck to smash Fremantle. The win broke a streak of nine consecutive losses for the Lions and they surely would be thrilled with the result, made even sweeter by the fact that it came just after the news of Josh Schache re-signing with the club. However, while this was a great win, it would be a mite too soon to start thinking of the Lions as a regularly competitive team again.
Port rang in the changes in response to last week’s disappointment, dropping Jasper Pittard, Jimmy Toumpas and Brendon Ah Chee. Their three inclusions are Dan Houston, Jake Neade, and Aaron Young.
The Lions, unsurprisingly, have made no change at all to a winning lineup.
The head-to-head doesn’t make for great reading for the Lions. Port Adelaide have won the last three against them in a row, and five of the last six. In their last two meetings Port have had winning margins of 83 and 96 – very comprehensive beatings. With Port showing a great ability to smash teams heavily this, year, expect that trend to continue.
$1.33 for Port by 40+ looks solid but Port -58.5 ($1.92) is better value.
