Melbourne vs Fremantle

The Demons and the Dockers go head to head at the MCG.

This match is a bit hard to read – the Demons are generally rated ahead of the Dockers by most, but, the respective form of these two sides last week presents a very different picture.

While Melbourne were victorious in their first two matches of the season, they copped their first loss of the year against Geelong on the weekend.

They were inaccurate in front of goal and couldn’t go with their opponents Geelong when the Cats found another gear.

They’re missing Jordan Lewis and Jesse Hogan through suspension, and now Max Gawn as well through injury – problems, they have them.

Fremantle started the year 0-2 and looked embarrassingly bad at times, but then they wiped the slate clean last week.

They got their first win of the year in the best way possible, knocking off the reigning premiers the Western Bulldogs at home.

Even more impressively, they did it with a young team, including two debutants, Harley Balic and Griffin Logue.

Unsurprisingly, they’ve named an unchanged team for this match. Melbourne on the other had have three changes – Sam Frost, Jake Spencer and Tom Bugg are in, Oscar McDonald and Timothy Smith have been dropped, while Gawn misses with injury.

Fremantle will look to exploit Melbourne’s lack of forward line firepower with a strong defensive effort and that would really put the pressure on the Dees to take their chances in front of goal. This should only temporarily hold the Demons back and the Dees by 1-39 at $2.10 is our tip.
