Melbourne vs Carlton

The Melbourne Demons and the Carlton Blues will go head to head at the MCG on Sunday, with the Demons hoping to continue their impressive Round 1 form.

The Demons came up against St Kilda in Round 1, and while they started slow they came roaring into life from the second quarter onwards.

Strong performances from a number of their youngsters as well as their veterans, including new recruit Jordan Lewis, saw them knock off the Saints by five goals.

It was the first time they’ve beaten the Saints in fifteen attempts, and also broke a longterm losing streak at Etihad Stadium.

Carlton on the other hand came up against the Richmond Tigers in the season opener on Thursday night and while they had a few good performers generally weren’t competitive.

At the end of the night they were down 43 points though they would’ve been happy enough to see a handful of their younger players step up.

The Demons are widely expected to be a team in the mix for finals this year, and their performance last week has put their stocks up there.

Carlton on the other hand seem more likely to be in the running for the wooden spoon than they do in the running for finals, so this should be a clear win to the Demons.

However, a key thing to consider is that Carlton have won nine of their last ten matches against Melbourne, and the Dees are not known for their mental consistency.

Carlton at $4.10 to pull off an upset isn’t the worst value, though if you do think it is possibly you should probably be looking at them to win by 1-39 points for $4.50.

Melbourne winning is the far more likely possibility, but it’s hard be confident of them achieving any particular margin, and the $1.25 for them to win doesn’t offer great value.
