Melbourne will be hoping to replicate their big win over Adelaide from earlier in the season when the two sides meet again in Round 17.
The Demons have been a good team this year and look set to play finals football for the first time in over a decade. They have a 9-6 record and decent percentage, and they’re sitting fifth on the ladder overall. The only thing that threatens to derail them is a growing injury list – Angus Brayshaw, Nathan Jones, Christian Salem, Dom Tyson, Jack Viney and Jack Watts are all on the sidelines. That didn’t stop them sneaking in a win over Carlton last week but it’s a fair gap between beating the Blues (16th) and the Crows (1st).
Adelaide do find themselves on top of the ladder, but Crows fans would be lying if they said they felt awfully secure there. They have the most points for and best percentage in the league, both good things, but have dropped matches they shouldn’t at times. Last week was a pretty solid bit of form though – a 59-point caning of the Western Bulldogs at home.
Just one change for Melbourne this week, they’ve dropped Billy Stretch and brought in Jay Kennedy-Harris.
Adelaide have dropped Scott Thompson and lost Wayne Milera to a calf injury, Hugh Greenwood and Tom Lynch are their inclusions.
These sides have won two each of the last four meetings between them. An extra factor in this is that the match is being played in the Northern Territory – so while Melbourne are technically the ‘home’ team, it’s Adelaide who have to travel the least. The Dees would be tempting to pick for an upset if it wasn’t for their injury list, but with that being what it is, they just don’t look likely. Adelaide to win is our tip but $1.38 is not great value.
