GWS will look to get their season and their top four hopes back on track when they host a struggling Freo team in Sydney’s west.
The Giants haven’t been having a great time of it lately – they haven’t won any of their last four games, but have at least drawn two of them. What’s been the cause of that? They’ve had some significant injury issues over that time, which is probably the majority of the problem. However, they’ve started getting more and more of those injured players back – this week they have two big stars in Jeremy Cameron and Stephen Coniglio returning to the fold. If things go well for them there’s still plenty of time to sure up a top-four spot and do some serious damage in this year’s finals series.
The Dockers have had just one win from their last eight games and that was a lucky four-point escape against North Melbourne. It might well have been eight consecutive losses had Todd Goldstein kicked what should’ve been an easy goal. Although Fremantle have seven wins, they’ve scored the second-least points of any team this year and have the second-worst percentage. As things stand they’re narrowly avoiding the bottom four, but there’s no guarantee of that if they don’t find another win soon.
GWS as mentioned have Coniglio and Cameron in this week, they’re also going to debut former Cat Dawson Simpson and will bring in Matt de Boer. Toby Greene misses through suspension, Steve Johnson and Shane Mumford through injury, and Tendai Mzungu has been dropped.
Fremantle have dropped Ryan Nyhuis and Josh Deluca this week and lose Michael Walters and Lee Spurr to injury. Luke Ryan, Brennan Cox, Cameron Sutcliffe and Brady Grey are their ins.
The Giants have won their last two over Fremantle after losing their first four meetings against the club. They should make it three straight this week and $2.37 for a 1-39 point win looks the best value.
