The Gold Coast Suns will rate themselves a sneaky chance of causing an upset when they host Richmond on Saturday.
The Suns haven’t had the worst season in their history by any stretch, though it hasn’t been the best of them either. They’ve won six games, some of them fairly memorable, but still sit a long way off the pack of sides in contention for finals. Given that they’ve got quite young list that’s not too bad an achievement though, and if you’ll excuse a pun, the future looks bright. They do appear to be tiring though as is common for young sides. They’ve lost three in a row and five of their last six.
Richmond on the other hand are finals-bound and have been playing some fairly good footy with the occasional downer. They’ve won four of their last five and took a big scalp against GWS last week. However, that hasn’t stopped them playing the occasional shocker, like their 67-point smacking from St Kilda three weeks ago. Despite that, they’re still playing consistent enough footy to be in the top four as we speak, and a chance of staying there for the next five weeks.
Gold Coast have Gary Ablett back this week which is huge, they’ve also recalled Jesse Joyce and will debut Max Spencer. Jack Bowes, Trent McKenzie and Jesse Lonergan have all been dropped.
Richmond are resting Dion Prestia but will also miss Jack Riewoldt who has an eye injury, and have dropped Jayden Short. Bachar Houli, Anthony Miles and Shai Bolton are their inclusions.
Oddly enough the Suns were once a hard team for the Tigers and they won only one of their first four games, but they have been victorious in the last two quite comfortably. Missing two good players on the road is a worry, but Richmond should still be good enough to get the job done – Richmond by 1-39 @ $2.10 for us.
