The Gold Coast Suns will look to keep the wins coming and build their case for an unlikely shot at finals when they host Carlton at Metricon Stadium.
The Suns have been an interesting team to follow this year – they’ve had a few poor performances, but they’ve also looked great at times. They’ve knocked off some really impressive opponents, but at other times have struggled when they would be expected to be competitive. They’re in a very good patch of form at the moment right now though, showing great tenacity to eke out back-to-back wins over West Coast and Hawthorn. It has them sitting at a 5-6 record halfway through the year, firmly in the middle of the pack and not without a chance at finals if they continue to play good football.
Carlton on the other hand come into this match off the best win in Brendon Bolton’s time at the club, a 1-point thriller over GWS last week. Although the gap of talent between the Giants and the Blues is vast, Carlton made up for it with effort and work ethic, and that saw them get the win. They’re not going to win many games as the favourites this year, if any, but the way they apply themselves means they’ll pinch a few here and there. So far, they’ve got a 4-7 record.
The Blues have lost Liam Sumner and Alex Silvagni to injury this week and as a result, Sam Petrevski-Seton and Blaine Boekhorst come into the side.
No change for the Suns, they’re clearly happy with where they’re at.
Gold Coast have won their last two matches against Carlton, including one where Tom Lynch kicked seven in Round 4 this year. At home, they should get another win here but given Carlton’s new-found defensive strength, we’re backing the Suns by 1-39 at $2.10.
