It’s another edition of the famous Western Derby as the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles go head to head.
These two sides have met 45 times since they were first both included in the league, with the Eagles leading the ledge 25-20 in the time.
The Dockers have been one of the hardest teams to read in the league this season, with a solid 7-8 record despite not really being that impressive. They’ve scored the second-least points in the league and have the second-lowest percentage in the league, so there’s an argument they should sit much lower than 12th. They were lucky to escape with a win last week against North Melbourne, and they’ve had just three wins by more than a goal all year, with the last one coming as far back as Round 9.
West Coast, to be fair, aren’t much more deserving of praise – after being looked at as a likely finals side all year, they have just last week dropped to ninth. Despite having a lot of mature talent on their list, they simply haven’t played particularly good footy, and have maybe one or two players who could be said to be currently playing career-best footy.
The Dockers are boosted this week by the inclusions of Lee Spurr and David Mundy, but will lose Tommy Sheridan to injury and have dropped Brady Grey.
West Coast have lost Scott Lycett, Malcolm Karpany and Eric Mackenzie to injury, and also have dropped Sharrod Wellingham. Will Schofield, Josh J Kennedy, Chris Masten and Jackson Nelson are their ins, with Kennedy in particular likely to have a big impact.
Our Verdict
Although neither team has much to crow about this year, expect West Coast to get the win, as they did earlier in the season. $3.10 for a West Coast 40+ points looks great value given the Dockers’ average form in recent times.
