The season is long over for both Fremantle and Gold Coast, but a win on Saturday night would give them some momentum heading into 2018.
Although Fremantle put in a nice patch of form early in the year, they’ve been pretty average since.
From their last nine games they’ve only got a single win, and that came by less than a goal against North Melbourne.
They do deserve a thumbs up from a pretty competitive effort on the road last week against GWS when they fell just two goals short.
The last few weeks have seen Nat Fyfe return to some of his absolute best form, which is always a handy thing for the Dockers to have.
Gold Coast haven’t been in great form lately either. They’ve lost the last four games and six of their last seven.
Ironically, their last win, like Fremantle’s, also came over North Melbourne.
With only six wins for the year, finals is well beyond them – now they face a difficult choice of whether or not to offer Rodney Eade a new deal.
That doesn’t seem likely to happen at this stage, but a few wins in what’s left of the season would be a point in his favour.
The Dockers have lost Connor Blakely to injury and are giving Sean Darcy a rest, with Jonathon Griffin and Danyle Pearce coming in.
Jarrod Witts, Brayden Fiorini, Callum Ah Chee and Ben Ainsworth will all miss through injury, while Jesse Lonergan has been dropped and Michael Rischitelli rested.
Gary Ablett and Steven May are back in some important inclusions for the Suns, and they’ve also got Trent McKenzie, Josh Schoenfeld, Daniel Currie and Mitch Hallahan coming in.
Gold Coast have won their last two against the Dockers, but with neither side in good form, this one is really hard to pick.
Gold Coast at $3 to win by 1-39 looks like pretty good value, that being the case.
