Carlton vs GWS

Carlton will hope to cause what would be one of the upsets of the season when they go up against the GWS Giants on Sunday.

The Blues are 17th on the ladder which might make you think they’re a poor team, but really every team in the league bar the Lions can win on their day at the moment, and Carlton are no different.

They have three wins already for the year and a few other decent performances in the bank – they know how to play defence well and how to frustrate an opponent, and that has helped them catch some oppositions unaware.

They had the bye last week and before that, a narrow loss to North Melbourne.

GWS on the other hand despite a mounting injury list have had an impressive habit of finding a way to win, and have had a number of close calls in recent weeks.

Of their last five games, four of them were won by single-digit margins, and their victory over Essendon last week was only by 16 points.

Still, one can’t argue with the fact that they have only lost two games all year and they are 9-2 on top of the ladder, although both Adelaide and Port Adelaide boast a better percentage.

Carlton have dropped Harrison Macreadie and Nick Graham this week and have Sam Petrevski-Seton being managed, with Jed Lamb, Liam Jones and Dale Thomas their inclusions.

The Giants have dropped Daniel Lloyd to make way for the return of Steve Johnson.

Carlton have four former-Giants in the line-up today – alongside Lamb, there’s also Caleb Marchbank, Lachie Plowman and Liam Sumner.

GWS look like the obvious choice here, it’s a match between first and seventeenth, after all – but with the Giants recording low margins lately, and the Blues a strong defensive team, it could be closeish.

Look at GWS to win by 1-39 for $2.10.
